from the girl who lived with my host family this past semester:
“Hello.
You should stop worrying about your family. They are AMAZING! They have had many students stay at their house and know what your going to be experiencing. The mom spends all her time taking care of their student. She is a good cook (lots of fried foods), she cleans your room everyday and also does your laundry everyday. She always gives you way to much food, so don’t worry about going hungry. The dad is also very sweet and he works on the local ferry. The oldest daughter Arianna works and goes to school and so she isn’t around too much. Maria their middle daughter is very nice and always around. Manuel the youngest loves playing outside with his friends. He loves soccer and he will joke around with you like any 12 year old boy would. The family loves to socialize with their student. There is always someone around to talk to, watch tv with, etc. Their family is obsessed with Farmville on facebook and they love soap operas. They are also very flexible and try to accommodate as much as possible. Arianna and Maria are always willing to help you with your homework and answer any questions you have. The mom treats you like one of her children and will worry about you just like she would her own children. You will really be a part of the family. Also, there is a 6 year old girl Daniella that lives next door and she will spend hours playing with you. She is a little shy at first but once she knows you she will come see you all the time. She is very adorable and I loved playing with her. I would not be worried about your family. This is going to be the best semester of your life. I thought leaving home was the hard part but then I realized that saying good bye was 100 times more difficult.
Here are some suggestions for gifts for them:
Maria , Arianna & Mom: They love Victoria Secrets lotions and sprays because they are very expensive.
Dad: Possibly a shirt from your University. (He is like an XXL or XL)
Manuel: A new soccer ball or he got a new PSP for Christmas but he doesn’t have any games for it yet because they are so expensive in Costa Rica.
If you need more suggestions let me know or if you have anymore questions at all I would be happy to answer them.
Relax this is going to be the best time of your life! Lauren:
ahhhhhhhh xoxoxo life.
